The Security Instructor Development Certification Course (IDC) is a 40-hour training course mandated by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in order to become a Certified Security Guard Instructor. Applicants can receive up to 30 points for three years of employment experience. Successful completion of this Instructor Development Course (IDC) will count as 40 points, and together the applicants will have the 70 points required to apply for the Security Guard Instructor Application, which must be submit to DCJS along with the $500 Certification Fee. This certification will allow new instructors to apply conduct training at state approved security guard training schools in the State of New York. The goal of this course is to assist instructor candidates in developing the ability to research, prepare and communicate that knowledge to others. This is the class that provides “Instructor” certification for Security Guards in General Topics, which include the 8-hour Pre Assignment, 16-hour On Job Training (OJT) and the 8-hour Annual In Service, all of which are the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services mandated courses for new and working registered New York State registered Security Guards, Armed and Unarmed. This course is also the prerequisite for training to become a NYS CERTIFIED Firearms Instructor, as well as other specialties.
